Marriage Visa Age To Raise To 21
Foreigners applying for marriage visas for the UK will have to be at least 21 years old from the end of November.
Ministers say raising the age from 18 is needed to stop forced marriages and deter people from abusing the system.
This measure applies to both partners. Spouses will have to agree to learn English and this will include future plans for English tests before spouses get their visas.
Minister Phil Woolas said “it is important we protect vulnerable young people”.
Other changes intended to tackle forced marriages means people will have to register their intention to marry before they leave the UK.
As from 27 November both parties wanting to marry will have to be 21 before a marriage visa can be issued.
good or bad idea ?
