Bridal Gown Found on Roadside
Somewhere in Lincoln County in Wisconsin, USA there could be a very unhappy bride without a dress to wear on her wedding day!
On the 18th of August, an employee of the Highway’s Department, Mr Stanley Gustafson, was driving along Highway 51 in Bradley when he saw a package in the road which the other cars were swerving around. He stopped to inspect the box and found inside a bridal gown. He believes that the box may have fallen off a trunk rather than discarded on purpose and has not taken the dress out of the box.
During his nineteen years of service to the department Mr Gustafson has only ever found rubbish along the side of the road, certainly never anything as valuable as a wedding dress. A local bridal shop owner suggested that as the dress was in a box already that perhaps it had been put in there for safe keeping after the wedding had taken place.
The dress is currently being held in Tomahawk at the Lincoln County Highway Department shop and advertisements to find the missing bride are being distributed locally.
Nude Wedding Competition
A radio station in New Zealand is running a bizarre wedding competition and in order to be in with a chance of taking part in a dream wedding the bride and groom must participate naked!
The Edge radio station are asking for couples to say their vows in front of their family and friends without wearing any clothes. They will provide the couple with a wonderful wedding complete with flowers, a cake, a beautiful venue and even a honeymoon to be taken on a cruise ship around the Bay of Islands.
A DJ from the station, Jay-Jay Feeney who participates in a show called Morning Madhouse said that over the last few years the station has asked three lots of complete strangers to get married and those couples are still together now, some of whom even have children together and they thought that this extra twist on the wedding competition would bring in a huge audience.
Couples can register on the station’s website and on the 7th of September after completing a few questions about themselves and their partners; they will be whittled down to just five couple finalists. A public vote, to be announced a week later, will decide which couple wins.
Best Man Hit by Bell Piece
After a bride and groom had said their vows and signed their wedding certificate, they were leaving the church following the ceremony when their best man was hit by something from above!
The wedding of Caroline Kennaugh and Robert Coole took place at Malew Church on the Isle of Man and they celebrated their reception at the Villa Marina. Reverend Michael Roberts officiated at the ceremony and he began to ring the church bells as the congregation walked out.
Thirty year old David Lewis who was just about to leave the church when he was hit on the head by a piece of metal that had fallen forty feet from the bell tower above him. The spear like object was approximately three feet long and he was left with a large wound at the back of his head which required stitching and was covered in a considerable amount of blood which was upsetting to the bride and guests.
Thankfully after being x-rayed and only spending an hour at Noble’s Hospital, David was given the all clear and was able to make it back to the reception just in time to give his best man speech. Jonathan Daniels, a tailor from Douglas was able to provide David with a new and clean suit.
The wedding party were very pleased to see Mr Lewis in one piece and all admitted that he was very lucky to only have a minor injury!
Fire Engine Wedding Chapel
A Reverent from Illinois in Chicago has one of the fastest ceremony locations in the State as far as he knows although for some brides, a fire truck probably is not the most romantic of locations they can dream of.
The fire engine belonging to Rev. Darrell Best was modified in July 2009 by the TV programme Trick My Truck after the Reverend’s family wrote to the TV show and it was converted into a cosy wedding chapel, idea for those newlyweds who want to say their vows on the move!
The 1942 fire truck now comes complete with a pipe organ and stained glass windows and can travel over fifty miles per hour. There is an altar for the couple to stand and even two wooden pews for a very small wedding party. Couples will be charged two hundred dollars for the ceremony and they can pay for the chapel to be driven anywhere they choose at a price of only two dollars a mile.
Any bride and groom getting married on this chapel on wheels will most certainly receive a lot of attention from passers-by.
Rochdale Register Office Open Day and Fair
In September the Registry Office in Rochdale is to open its doors to the public as an incentive to bring them in to have a walk round the Wedding Fair open day. It is a free event and this will be the first time the Town Hall has ever held such an event.
Visitors to the Register Office will be able to view the room where the ceremonies are held as well as find out more information about the services that are available to them for their big day. The event will have examples of everything a bride and groom will need from leading wedding suppliers and will also include a fashion show.
The public will also be able to walk round the grounds of the Grade 1 listed building of the Town Hall building if they are interested in having their wedding photographs taken on site. There will also be Registrars available to discuss your ceremony requirements be they renewing of your vows or a civil ceremony.
The Major, Councillor Keith Swift and Ms Susanne Etchells, the Mayoress will be officially opening the event.
Brides Wont Receive Dresses
The most treasured item of your wedding is the bridal gown. Imagine how horrified you would feel to discover that your once in a lifetime dress will not be arriving for you to wear on your wedding day. This was the situation that over fifty women from Fort Collins in northern Colorado found themselves in quite recently.
The fifty women, most of whom have already paid for their wedding dresses, were clients of the Mountain Avenue Bridal shop owned by Ms Patty Burling. The bridal shop has closed without prior warning and the brides have not had their dresses delivered. They have also been unable to contact Ms Burling on the telephone as the voice mailbox is not allowing them to leave messages as it states it is already full.
Rita Davis, a spokesperson for the Fort Collins police have confirmed that an investigation has been launched, aided by the disgruntled brides and some of the shop employees in order to bring about charges to Ms Burling.
While this shop owner may face charges at some point in the future, this would in no way make up for the upset and stress that these brides-to-be have endured!
Bride Killed Days Before Wedding
Just four days before she was due to get married and only a mile from her doorstep, Carol Tegg was killed in a horrific car accident.
Twenty six year old Carol from South Oxfordshire was driving her blue Citroen when she hit a bus head on and within a few seconds both of the vehicles had caught fire. Carol became trapped in her car while the driver and the twenty five passengers on the bus all managed to escape with only minor injuries.
Carol’s mum Denise was expecting a visit from Carol that day but when she didn’t turn up Denise got in her car and happened upon the gruesome scene where she began to realised what had caused her daughter’s delay. Shortly after David Farrell, Carol’s fiancee arrived on the scene and they were told that Carol was believed to have been overtaking another car before hitting the bus.
A witness to the accident stated that it happened very quickly and they cant believe that more people were not seriously injured in the crash.
Hundred Year Old Family Heirloom
All brides try to following the long time tradition of having something old and something blue at their wedding. For some it could be a blue garter borrowed from a friend or perhaps an old hair pin that your mother wore at her wedding. One bride recently carried with her an item that had been in her family for years and was almost a hundred years old!
Twenty eight year old identical twin Liz Williams from Halstead carried a very old prayer book with her down the aisle when she married her husband Tim. The book belonged to Ella Wingrave her great grandmother and she was carrying on a family tradition as both her mother and her aunty also carried the book when they got married.
Inside the book is a message from Charlie Wingrave her great grandfather. Charlie had given it to Ella on their wedding day on the 18th of September 1918. Liz who now lives in Bromley was happy to carry the book as it meant a lot to her.
The couple were married in Beckenham at St Barnabas Church where Tim’s father, a vicar from Wales, was also involved in the wedding ceremony when he served communion for the congregation.
Sixty Years Together
This week David and Hilda Gummer will be celebrating sixty years of marriage after they were married in Chipping Sodbury at a Roman Catholic Chapel on 20th August 1949.
The couple, from Stroud in Gloucestershire, met near Wotton-under-Edge in the village of Tresham in 1947 when David was just twenty five years old and Hilda was thirty one.
At the time, ninety two year old Hilda ran a rented smallholding which spanned over eleven acres and David, who is now eighty five, worked on a five hundred acre local farm as a cowman. In 1965 Hilda changed careers and began working at Erinoid located in Lightpill as a process operator. The pair eventually went on to deliver meals on wheels in their local area which they did for over ten years.
The couple who are members of the Friends of Selsley and The Friendship Circle have three children and four grandchildren together and believe that the secret to a good marriage is to have fun, be honest from the beginning and learn to compromise with each other.
Hilda and David will be celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary with a family party at Weston-Super-Mare over the weekend.
Pig Swallows Diamond from Wedding Ring
During a family visit to a nearby farm, a grandmother was shocked to discover that the pig she had been petting had eaten the diamond from her wedding ring!
Anne Moon from Thirsk in North Yorkshire had taken a day trip to a farm attraction with her grandchildren, four year old Josh and twenty month old Emilia along with her husband Les.
Easingwold Maize Maze farm is home to Ginger who is a Kune Kune pig. During their visit, Anne had gone to pet Ginger who had walked towards her when she stood by the pig’s pen. She leant in and began petting him and Ginger subsequently began to pull at her hand. After a while, Anne retrieved her hand and after wiping off the mud she noticed that the main diamond from the ring was missing.
The ring, purchased over thirty years ago by sixty three year old husband Les was worth fifteen hundred pounds. Anne is not hopeful that her diamond will be returned to her.
Farmer Paul Caygill, who owns the farm attraction, now has to search the sty bit by bit in order to locate the diamond. He was very surprised to hear that Ginger had tried to grab the ring and hopes that nature to do its job sooner rather than later.
