Wedding Won on Ebay

Most people have grabbed themselves a bargain on the Ebay site, particularly brides who have found their ideal dress or favours or even a bargain honeymoon online but for one couple in Telford, they bagged themselves a sumptuous wedding reception after bidding just fifty one pounds and winning!

Twenty five year old Colette Palin and her then fiancé, thirty four year old Lee Clark were lucky enough to win their champagne reception at the Buckatree Hall which is located in Telford after the Hall had received a cancellation at the last minute.

The couple had received quotes of over a thousand pounds for their wedding reception and as Colette is pregnant, they felt it was a lot of money to spend when it could be used for other things. When Colette heard about the auction, she bid her fifty one pounds and then put it out of her mind, not thinking for a minute that she would actually win.

Their win enabled the couple to enjoy a lovely reception with their fifty guests which included champagne, floral and table decorations, a wedding breakfast consisting of three courses and a stay in the hotel for the newlyweds.

The general manager of the hotel, Jason Petty stated that they knew the event would sell for much less than should be paid for it but added that he and the staff welcomed the opportunity of helping the couple out.

Colette even managed to purchase her dress for half price and their complete wedding cost just over four thousand pounds in total.

Rock ‘n Roll Bride

Are you planning a nice ordinary wedding?  Or do you want something a little different, something to make your guests say ‘wow’ and have a wedding to remember?  It’s not about budget, it’s about standing out from the crowd.  If that’s you then you may want to start following the blog of Kat Williams, Rock ‘n Roll Bride.  I asked Kat to tell me a little about herself and her blog…

Rock ‘n Roll Bride promotes individuality and general awesomeness in a cookie cutter, pastel pink, poufy dressed wedding world. Don’t let the wedding industry define your day – let *you* define your day.

Rock ‘n Roll Bride began as an unknown, personal wedding blog – a place for me to gather my wedding planning thoughts and ideas for myself. After our wedding in April 2008, I realised I rather liked this blogging malarkey and so decided continue gathering and posting stuff I loved and hoped others would also enjoy.

Rock n Roll Bride is all about the charm and unique nature of ordinary people’s, extraordinary weddings.

I am, as much as anyone can be, a complete and utter wedding obsessive. I did manage to plan our wedding (with help!) and do actually look at gorgeous wedding images every single day. Therefore I love to try to offer some help, advice or maybe even sanity to anyone that needs it.

Through running Rock n Roll Bride I have had the pleasure to meet (whether that be online or in actual real life) a plethora of fabulous Rock n Roll wedding-worthy photographers from all over the world. If you are still on the photographic hunt, then feel free to drop me an email for some recommendations. I adore every single photographer on my ‘List of Love’, and I would be more than thrilled to share them with you.

So whether your mother-in-law to be is driving you nuts, your best friend is refusing to come your your wedding because they can’t bring their child (oh yes, it happened to us) or if you just want someone to bounce ideas about colour schemes, hair pieces or shoes (yes please) off, don’t be shy, drop me an email and let rip…

Wedding Trouble at Country Golf Club

Some weddings unfortunately end with a spot of bother at some point, be it a fight between guests or perhaps an accident with the cake. At one wedding recently, the Police were called to a country golf club when the guests became a bit rowdy and things were destroyed!

The Wiltshire Golf and Country Club based in Wootton Bassett was the setting for a wedding containing approximately three hundred guests. The staff learnt only a couple of weeks before the wedding was due to take place that it was in fact a ‘travellers’ wedding and many of the guests had come from as far as Wales and Kent.

The club’s owner, Eddy Shah, concerned about their excessive drinking and aggressive behaviour after things began to turn destructive, called the police. Over forty armed police officers arrived on the scene and Eddy stated that things could have been much worse had they not arrived to give their support.

There was approximately six thousand pounds worth of damage caused to the golf course and some of the club’s buggies. Some of the rooms had been trashed and the guests who stayed overnight even caused trouble the next morning over breakfast. One guest was arrested on a drink driving charge after he was thrown out of the club and proceeded to try and drive his car home.

Printfetti – Confetti with a Difference

If you are looking to use confetti at your wedding, but want something a little bit different, you should take a look at Printfetti - it’s confetti with a difference – it’s not just a single colour, it’s a multitude of shapes with varied photos printed on both sides!

I asked Emma from Printfetti to tell me a little about the business and of course Printfetti itself.

Printfetti was launched in May 2009 and is the brainchild of Matthew and Emma Augier. Matthew has been running DPS Ltd. for over 10 years as a software developer whilst Emma had been working part time, due to running 3 children around. With the youngest starting school full time in the near future, Emma wanted to contribute more to the business.

Planning a celebration of any kind sees many people seeking out that something different, that little extra that will prove to be a talking point.

Printfetti is a unique table confetti that may be just what the celebrant is looking for. Table confetti has been around for some time now. It has become increasingly popular to scatter small metallic symbols on tables and even add them into the envelope with birthday cards, Christmas cards and, indeed, any celebration card. Printfetti offers an exciting alternative to this – your photographs on confetti. Upload and use up to 10 of your favourite photos per order which appear randomly on not just one side but both! It offers a range of shapes: circles, stars, hearts and diamonds that are approximately 1” (25mm) in diameter.

Groom Marries after Beating

buttonholeIn Darwen, just a few hours before a groom was due to say his vows he was savagely attacked by a gang of young people.

Thirty four year old John Adams was enjoying a few drinks the night before his wedding with his best man to be, thirty one year old Mark Jenkins. The pair were on their way home from their night out when a group of around ten kids began a motiveless attack on them.

The gang whose ages ranged from fifteen to twenty left the two men lying in pools of blood. They were treated for their injuries at the Royal Blackburn Hospital but Mark was so badly injured that he was unable to attend the wedding.

John, an insurance salesman married his bride, thirty six year old Anna in Darwen at the Whitehall Hotel in spite of his swollen face and black eye. John even managed, despite being in pain, to dance the traditional first dance in front of his children, ten year old Nicole and eight year old Jordan and their one hundred guests.

John and Anna’s photographer has told them that he will digitally enhance the photographs in order to hide John’s facial injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses and the two men are recovering.

Mark Niemierko – Premier Wedding Planner

mark-niemierko£50,000?     £60,000?     £70,000?     How about £500,000?

That’s a lot of money to spend on your wedding – you are probably going to want a helping hand with the planning.

And when it comes to that helping hand you will struggle to find somebody better placed than Mark Niemierko; with over 10 years experience of planning special occasions, including weddings for Premiership football players and Russian oligarchs no less, Mark is the planner of choice for the savvy and sophisticated bride and groom.

Mark has achieved what could be called a ‘celebrity status’ within the high end wedding suppliers which affords him unrivaled access for his clients; how many wedding planners could take you to an exclusive preview of Designer Max Chaoul’s Bridal Collection at the Paris Fashion Week?

So, whether you are a billionaire with only two days to plan a wedding – yes, Mark pulled this one off, with extravagance to the extreme with dress designers pitching their frocks at the clients hotel the day before the wedding – or a discerning bride whose tastes include Jimmy Choo, Harvey Nichols and the Claridge Hotel (yes, Mark is on the ‘approved’ wedding planning list here…) then you will want to engage the services of Niemierko.

Of course, deciding you want Mark to plan your wedding is only the first step, you will need to be prepared to move your wedding date to fit in with Mark’s diary – ‘double booking’ is not in the Niemierko vocabulary.

We asked Mark to share the secret of the Niemierko experience, he told us that “Myself and my team bring added value whilst ensuring that the Bride and Groom are spoilt throughout the planning process, and naturally, the wedding day itself. We strive to bring the bride and groom as much, or as little, choice as they request. Nothing makes us happier than when decisions are made 100% by the bride and groom, yet any stress or headaches that arise from those decisions are 100% handled by Niemieko. The couples we work with relax and enjoy their wedding, from the first day of planning, to the door closing on the honeymoon suite.”

Fifteen Tiered Cake Costs Eighty Thousand Pounds

Everyone knows that the cost for a wedding usually amounts to thousands of pounds and each key item, such as the bride’s dress, the venue and the flowers usually cost a significant amount separately. Most of us however wouldn’t spend more than a couple of hundred pounds on a wedding cake!

A couple from Scotland are set to have an extravagant thirteen foot wedding cake at their ceremony. The cake is planned to have fifteen tiers and will be decorated with crystals and diamonds at a total cost of approximately eighty thousand pounds.

One of the grooms, forty two year old Michael Burns is a cake designer and he has his own wedding cake business which he started sixteen years ago. Over the years he has been making wonderful cakes for other couples and now, he has the opportunity to beat his tallest cake of six foot (eight tiers) for his own wedding. Michael’s business, Special Days Cakes is located in Uddingston in Lanarkshire.

His partner Stephen Whyteside is a teacher. The couple will be wearing a tartan called Platinum Silver which has been specially designed for them and they have decided on a Christmas theme for their wedding which is due to take place at Burnhouse Manor in Beith in December.

The cake will need to be moved using a forklift truck as it will be so big and the preparation began in August as it will take many weeks to finalize the smaller decorations such as the sugar flowers. The decorative diamonds and crystals are only on loan so that the cake can be photographed with them but they will be removed after an hour.

Designer Shoes Fall Apart

shoesA bride from Whitburn in West Lothian paid out a lot of money to wear designer shoes on her wedding day and was frustrated to find that they practically fell apart after just a few hours of wear and tear!

Thirty one year old Pauline Azzoo paid over three hundred pounds for her Jimmy Choos shoes and after only wearing them for twelve hours, the soles came off and the heels were completely wrecked so she was no longer able to wear them as they looked shabby.

The wedding of Pauline to thirty four year old Carl who is a recruitment manager took place on a lovely sunny day near Stirling at the Airth Castle.

The firm who produced the designer shoes would not give Pauline a refund stating that the bride had worn the shoes out in the rain. They have however fixed the shoes since the wedding day and have not made any other statement regarding a refund or the quality of the shoes.

Flight attendant Pauline feels she should warn other brides about paying out a lot of money on designer things, just because they cost the earth does not mean that they will last. The disgruntled bride plans to take the firm to the small’s claims court.
