Red Devils land at Wedding
Guests who drop into wedding receptions or ceremonies in an unusual manner are not always welcome guests but for one couple in Cumbria their special guests dropped in from above!
Twenty eight year old Corporal Michael French had just married his bride, twenty seven year old Claire at the St Mary’s Church in Gosforth when the Red Devils wanted to send their congratulations the best way they knew how with six of them parachuting on to the Gosforth cricket pitch in front of two hundred spectators. After landing, Sergeant Jay Webster, the team leader, gave a salute to the newlywed couple.
The couple had originally planned to be married on the islands of Hawaii but they decided that they wanted a family wedding instead. After being married, they celebrated their reception in a marquee at the Westlakes Hotel.
Michael, who has recently joined the Red Devils has yet to be involved in any displays and will soon be starting out on his training in California for a period of six weeks.
Cole Separation
Earlier in the year it was announced that pop singer and X Factor Judge, Cheryl Cole was taking a break from her football player husband, Ashley. Just recently it was announced that actually the pair will be separating after four years of marriage!
Twenty six year old Cheryl from Newcastle upon Tyne, married the England player in North West London in July 2006. The couple had met two years before in 2004 and were engaged for about a year.
Twenty nine year old Ashley Cole, a player for England and Chelsea, seems to have a plethora of allegations surrounding him concerning his faithfulness to his wife in the past and things have obviously now come to a head and are too much for the young singer to deal with so on her return from her recent trip to the States, Cheryl made her announcement to split.
A spokesperson confirmed that the couple will be separating and that they hope the public will be respectful of their privacy.
Sinitta wants to be Cowell’s Bridesmaid
Most people know who Simon Cowell is and whether they love him or hate him, the public life of a celebrity is always considered a good read. Singer Sinitta from Seattle in America, who used to date Simon talked about his recent engagement and expressed her hopes at being one of his bridesmaids on the day he gets married!
Another friend of Simon’s told the press that they had been asked to keep the engagement a secret, possibly due to the fact that fifty year old Simon has always said that he would never get married and is now feeling a little embarrassed by his former statements.
Thirty six year old Mezhgan Hussainy originally from Afghanistan met Simon in 2004 while working on the American Idol show as a make up artist. Simon was already in a relationship with Terri Seymour but this ended in 2008 and a year later he began dating Mezhgan.
The rumour that Simon proposed to Mezhgan on Valentine’s Day seems to be backed up further when she was seen wearing a diamond ring believed to be valued at two hundred and fifty thousand pounds.
Sinitta commented that the couple seem to be very much in love and that she thought Simon’s bride-to-be was a very lovely woman.
Wedding Honeymoon Offer
Who wouldn’t want something free for their wedding? Couples planning a wedding can sometimes find that things like their honeymoon can really raise their budget so a company in Saint Lucia has an offer for couples to bring in more custom at their resort!
The twenty year old company, Windjammer Landing is giving the offer to couples who plan to marry before December this year. If a couple decides to stay at the resort for just ten nights, they will be offered a free wedding package to the approximate value of around seven hundred pounds. The package will include flowers and buttonholes, garden or beach ceremony, marriage licence, taxis, wedding cake, wine and much more.
Also included for the couple will be a romantic breakfast following the wedding day along with some lovely scented candles in their room. The resort vows to treat the couple like royalty with flowers and champagne on their arrival and of course the exclusive attention of a wedding co-ordinator.
Guests who also wish to stay at the resort along with the Bride and Groom will receive a discount of up to twenty percent on their accommodation and food. The company is recommending that couples book early and further information can be found on their website.
Lost Ring Found on Valentine’s Day
Finding something you’ve lost is always a good feeling and when it is a wedding ring, something precious that signifies your relationship, that feeling is coupled with relief at finding such a sentimental item and happiness. For one couple whose wedding ring disappeared while out walking in the snow they experienced just these feeling quite recently when thankfully their ring was found!
Liz and Richard Allen who live in Sheffield had decided to celebrate their twenty fifth wedding anniversary and the New Year in the Lake District in Cumbria and during their visit to Coniston they enjoyed a walk through the Coppermines Valley when it was completely covered in snow. As they enjoyed their walk, Richard’s wedding ring fell from his hand and the couple were unable to find it in the thirty inches of snow lying on the ground. The couple searched as best they could but to no avail and the Coppermines and Lakes Cottages agreed to put up posters on the off chance that the ring was found when the snow melted.
The Managing Director of Coppermines, Philip Johnston, commented that looking for the ring would have been extremely difficult but luckily, almost amazingly, once the snow had gone the ring was found and handed in and the couple collected it from the Coppermines on Valentine’s Day.

Dresses for Zambian Brides
A charity located in Berkshire is trying to get the public to donate their wedding dresses so that they can send them to Zambia in Africa so that the brides-to-be over there can also feel like princesses on their wedding day!
So many dresses are boxed away after the wedding day is over and sometimes never seen again so the charity, Aids Support Awareness Project (ASAP) is encouraging people to give their dresses. Forty six year old Abi Parker runs the charity in Windsor from home and has confirmed that the company will rent the donated dresses to upcoming brides all over Zambia. She went on to say that a Zambian bride wearing a white wedding dress gives the Bride’s family a high stature within the community as normally only rich families are able to provide white wedding dresses.
Abi, who lived in Zimbabwe for ten years, has already received a world-wide response to her appeal and has received dresses from Canada, Norway and Russia as well as the UK. One of the dresses they received was over sixty years old and still in excellent condition.
Bride’s Blood Experiment
A Bride from Keevil in Wiltshire believes that scientists are correct with their theories about how having a large wedding can make people closer to their friends and family and secure relationships. To further her beliefs, this Bride asked some of the wedding party to give blood in order to test the theory!
The theory is that everyone attending the wedding, be they the participants or the guests, will benefit from the emotions and hormonal surges that will be running wild throughout everyone and that this will ensure that the Bride and Groom will have a secure and happy future together.
Linda Geddes and her partner Nic Fleming are both science journalists and they wanted the volunteers to give blood before the ceremony and then another sample once it was over.
Linda’s mum was one of the volunteers along with bridesmaid and best friend, Suzi Dixon who was only too happy to participate in the experiment conducted by Professor Paul Zak from America. Professor Zak confirmed that the oxytocin levels he was measuring were in fact elevated after the ceremony which should therefore confirm this theory.
So while this does proves that everyone at a wedding is in a good mood, thankfully it is not something that should become a necessity at every ceremony!
African Gay Wedding Plans Halted
Another gay wedding that has been halted by officials from their own country has been reported to the media and on this occasion, there were actually arrests made during a protest.
A couple from a small town on the coast of Kenya where it is against the law to be gay and therefore marriage between same sexes is not allowed, were due to be married in secret. The information about the hush-hush wedding somehow made its way to the local Police who then set about raiding the home of the men.
Five people who would have been in attendance at the wedding were arrested by the Police and it is understood that these men will, at some point be charged for being gay following a medical examination.
A spokesperson for the Police stated that they were grateful for the public’s input into stopping the wedding which was due to take place in Mombasa.
Malaysian Singer Weds on Beach
A famous Malaysian singer got married recently in a beautiful beachside wedding but has confirmed that she will not be retiring from the singing business!
Thirty one year old Fish Leong married her partner, thirty four year old Tony Chao, a businessman from Taiwan. The couple were wed in front of fifty friends and family members from all over the world in Boracay one of the Philippine islands at the Discovery Shores Resort.
The singer is adamant that just because she is now a married woman she will not give up her passion for singing and intends to begin work on a new album which she hopes will be released later in the year. She also plans to start touring in August and will include Taiwan and Hong Kong into her tour dates.
The bride, who spent most of the ceremony in tears, was walked down the aisle by her friend and mentor, Jonathan Lee and she wore a stunning Vera Wang wedding dress.
The couple who have been together for over two years apparently spent almost a hundred and fifty thousand pounds on their wedding which will also include a further two ceremonies to be held in Malaysia and Taiwan.
