Hallmark Says ‘I Do’ To Same Sex Marriage Cards
Most US states don’t recognize same sex marriage but Hallmark greeting cards do.
The USA’s largest greeting card company is now producing samesex wedding cards.
One features two tuxedos with overlapping hearts or intertwined flowers the greeting inside says “Two hearts. One promise,”
Hallmark added the cards after California joined Massachusetts as the only U.S. states with legal Same sex marriages.
Only a handful of other states have recognized same-sex civil unions.
The language inside the cards is neutral, with no mention of wedding or marriage making them suitable for a commitment ceremony.
Hallmark says they have produced the cards in response to consumer demand and not any political pressure.
I for one think this is a good idea.
Lets hope other large card companies follow suit.
Registrar Wins Right To Refuse Same Sex Weddings
A Christian registrar who refused to perform same-sex civil partnership unions because she believes that same sex marriage is “sinful” has won her claim for discrimination.
An employment tribunal found Islington council in north London discriminated against Lillian Ladele who was threatened with dismissal when she asked to be excused from conducting same sex marriage ceremonies.
Ms Ladele, who has worked as a registrar for 15 years, said she held ” Christian beliefs” about marriage and same-sex unions and was unhappy to perform civil partnerships. She asked to be excused from them because there were other registrars who could conduct the services.
Conservative MP to Enter a Civil Partnership
Alan Duncan will be having the same sex equivalent of a wedding when he enters into a Civil Partnership with his partner James Dunseath. He will become the first Conservative MP to do so and the mutterings within the party is that this is a great thing, not only for Alan and James, but for the image of the Conservative party itself.
It was Margaret Thatcher’s government that introduced ‘Section 28′ into the education system to prevent the ‘liberal lefties’ from teaching children about gays – this lost Thatcher a lot of votes and cast an image of homophobia over the whole party.
In recent years, with David Cameron as the party leader, this image has gone a long way to being shaken off, this partnership is hoped to remove any lingering impression that the Conservative party is homophobic.
Full story and interview with Alan Duncan at the Times Online website.
It is good to see high profile MPs no longer afraid that they will put an end to their careers by publicly acknowledging their homosexuality.
