Wedding Budgets for 2011 Plummet
WeddingChaos.co.uk, the wedding planning experts, have surveyed over 4,000 future brides and grooms to find out just how much they are planning on spending on their wedding and the results show that the lavish weddings of pre-recession times are largely a thing of the past.
Despite the accepted wisdom drawn from other survey sources that the cost of the ‘average’ wedding is approaching £20,000 – our research, one of the most extensive surveys yet conducted, shows this figure is miles away from actual budgets. In actual fact the largest grouping intended to spend less than £5,000 on their big day. A startling 68% of respondents were planning on spending less than £10,000.
“I think this survey shows that many modern brides and grooms are being much more realistic about their wedding finances,” explains WeddingChaos founder David Cartlidge. “You look at some of the extravagances that were previously part of the wedding experience, such as lasering messages onto rose petals, and they seem particularly frivolous given the current financial climate.”
The rush to keep costs low on their big day has seen more and more people turning towards websites like Wedding Chaos as canny brides look to shave money off the budget.
“We are certainly seeing people becoming savvier,” says Cartlidge. “They are setting sensible budgets and then trying hard to stick to them using the extra resources and discounts that the web can put them in touch with. From what we’ve seen the economy is biting hard into the wedding budget.”
