Marriage on the Decline

The number of couples in Briton getting married has collapsed to a record low,it has emerged

The proportion of people getting married is now the lowest since records began in 1862 and the number of weddings held in 2006 was the smallest since 1895.

Among men the rate was 22.8 in every 1,000, among women 20.5. When marriage-rates were first calculated in 1862 the level was 58.7 for men and 50 for women.

Even during the world war years marriage rates for women never dropped below 40 in 1,000. They fell below 30 for the first time in 1995.

The general decline of marriage has been under way since 1972 when there were 426,000 weddings and marriage rates were more than 78 in 1,000 for men and 60 for women.

Church weddings are also at a low as two-thirds of all weddings in 2006 were civil ceremonies.

Religious marriages numbered fewer than 80,000.

Wow i’m pretty shocked by this !

Maybe all you ladies need to stop waiting for your man and do the asking yourself ;)

Wedding Ring Found After 90 Years Under Water

A First World War sailor’s wedding ring has been discovered in the sea almost 90 years after he died

Stanley Cubiss was one of 188 crewmen who died on January 12 1918 after two warships ran aground on the Orkney island of South Ronaldsay.

Mr Cubiss’s wedding ring was found on the seabed by divers last summer.

They were able to track down Stanleys nephew, Malcolm Cubiss, 79, and presented him with the ring,

He has since donated the wedding ring to Scapa Flow Visitor Centre on the island of Hoy.

Nice to see this has ben found after so many years at the bottom of the sea .

Couples Hope To Bring Home The Bacon

A bizarre ritual dating back to the 12th century in which the couple who can prove to a mock court that their marriage is the happiest wins half a pig takes place on Saturday.

The Dunmow Flitch Trials in Essex, feature a judge and jury of six maidens and six bachelors who hear each couple tell the story of their marriage from how they met to the proposal and how their families reacted.

The trials are held every four years and this time feature five couples who have been married for at least a year and a day in line with the rules.

Strange but true!!!!

Trash The Dress

89px-trash_the_dress_simon_taylor_2398.jpgThe idea is said to have started in America by photographer Mark Eric after he shot his first Trash The Dress session in New York but some sources claim that it started in 2001 when Las Vegas wedding photographer John Michael Cooper.

However, the idea of destroying a wedding dress has been used in Hollywood  since at least October 1998 when Meg Cummings of the show Sunset Beach ran into the ocean in her wedding dress after her wedding was badly interrupted.

The idea of trashing your wedding dress after hundreds of hours of stress from planning their wedding has mass appeal to some  non-traditional brides.

So will you be wrapping up you dress in Acid free tissue paper and placing in a box and putting it in the loft or do you fancy run though the sea or throwing paint all over yourself ?

Sounds like fun to me!

Wedding Films

Friday saw the release of two ‘wedding films’, there was Nicole Kidman and Jack Black staring in Margot at the Wedding and Uma Thurman and Colin Firth in The Accidental Husband.

Have you seen either of them? If so, any good?
